September 15, 2017Jeffrey M. Schanz Named Albany Law School’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement
Jeffrey M. Schanz, Ph.D., has been named Vice President of Institutional Advancement, a new position that will oversee institutional development efforts, alumni relations, and community affairs at Albany Law School. As part of the school’s leadership team, he will lead a new fundraising initiative that includes expanding the existing development group.
For the past 17 years Schanz has worked at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, most recently as Assistant Vice President in the Division of Institute Advancement, and Executive Director of the Rensselaer Alumni Association.
“Jeff was the clear choice after an extensive search,” said Alicia Ouellette, president and dean. “We have ambitious goals over the next several years, and we believe Jeff is the right person to join our team and help us achieve these goals, which include working with our committed alumni community to help bring the school to its next level.”
At Rensselaer, Schanz worked closely with university leadership, alumni volunteers, parents, students, and friends to establish long-term engagement and philanthropic relationships for the university. He has also served in large comprehensive capital campaigns. He holds a B.A. in Political Science and a Master’s in Public Administration, both from Marist College, where he served as president of the Marist Alumni Association and alumni representative to the Board of Trustees. He earned an M.S., a C.A.S., and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and Policy Studies from the University at Albany.
“The Albany Law School alumni have an impressive reputation as a community that cares about their law school,” Schanz said. “I look forward to working with them.”
The school has a $62 million endowment, 86 endowed scholarships, 11 endowed fellowships, and 25 prizes. It raises approximately $1 million in unrestricted support every year. It gave away $7 million in student scholarships last year.
