August 1, 2019Japanese Educators Tour Capital Region BOCES’ Technological Offerings
A team of educators from numerous cities in Japan, including Tokyo and Nagasaki, learned on Monday about the Capital Region BOCES Northeast Regional Information Center (NERIC) and how it boosts the educational outcomes of students across New York State.
The teachers and administers toured NERIC’s distance learning labs at BOCES’ headquarters, met with longtime educators and NERIC officials, and asked questions about how schools gain support for the technology and implement its use.
“In Japan, our use of technology is improving, but in the classroom we are still 20 to 30- years behind what we saw here today,” said Tsukui Takayuki, English teacher and executive director of the Japan Association for the Study of Teaching English as he took a break from the Monday tour.
Hosted by the U.S. Department of State, the delegation is on a three week tour of the United States and made a morning stop at BOCES. The mission of the educational leaders is to assess how technologies are impact public education and education policies and to discuss potential collaborations between US and Japanese institution.
