Industrial Manufacturing Technician Bootcamp – Tuition Assistance Available

Sept. 21 to Dec. 21 (No class Nov. 23)

Thursdays | 6 to 9 p.m. | SUNY Adirondack Saratoga & Brightspace

In this short-term course, students will learn entry-level skills to begin their careers as electrical technicians in a variety of environments. The program includes weekly in-person meetings from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, as well as an additional three hours of asynchronous online work per week that students must complete on their own. Ideal candidates include those new to work in a modern manufacturing environment with an aptitude for hands-on work and a desire to build competencies and skills to advance in their fields. Through hands-on classes, independent study and work outside of class, students will have the opportunity to build key competencies to ensure on-the-job success, including:

·     A strong foundation in basic math applications and mathematical conversions between measurement units and mathematical systems

·     Reading and making precise measurements, and using scientific notation

·     An introduction to AC and DC currents and their use in electrical systems

·     Safety around high-voltage equipment, including PPE, and the OSHA Lockout Tagout (LOTO) certification in electrical safety

·     An introduction to PLC equipment and relay communications

·     Hand tool use

·     Use of continuous improvement models in modern manufacturing including Lean and Six Sigma

Companies wishing to upskill new or potential employees and individuals who want to enter the exciting and ever-changing world of modern manufacturing will benefit from this course. Career services are embedded into the course and include presentations by area job centers and recruitment opportunities with local employers. Course fee includes a toolkit for each student and the cost of LOTO certification training and examination.
