Inaugural Capital Region BOCES Law Enforcement Appreciation Event is a Success

Nearly a dozen members of law enforcement took part in the inaugural Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical Education Center – Schoharie Campus.

During the Nov. 9 event, Culinary Arts & Hospitality Tech students prepared and served alongside Criminal Justice students various grab-and-go foods, including breakfast sandwiches, pastries, fruit and drinks.

“We wanted to show local law enforcement that we appreciate their service, while also providing them with information about our program and having our students interact with all facets of the local law enforcers,” said teacher Gerald Place.

During the event, students learned from New York State Police troopers about the steps they took to enter law enforcement and some of the work they do on the roads, highways and byways of the region.

There are 94 students from nearly two-dozen school districts enrolled in the Criminal Justice program at Capital Region BOCES for the 2022-23 school year. Working with partners in law enforcement like the State Police, students learn about the history, theory, practices, and recent developments in the field of criminal justice, as well as practice the skills necessary for those careers
