Historic Wood Window Rehabilitation Course Returns at HVCC

Many of the Capital Region’s historic towns and cities are experiencing a wave of renovation, revitalization and re-use, but with new homeowners and businesses rehabilitating older buildings, there is a real need for specialized training for window repair.

The demand for skilled tradespeople who can restore structures with historically-sound techniques is the inspiration for an ongoing alliance between Hudson Valley Community College’s Office of Workforce Development, the NYS Historic Preservation Office and the Historic Albany Foundation.

All three will collaborate this spring as the Office of Workforce Development offers a 40-hour “Historic Wood Window Rehabilitation” course. The class will be held at the STEAM Garden, 279 Central Ave., Albany.

The window rehabilitation course is part of a new “traditional trades” curriculum aimed at craftspeople who wish to be trained in the preservation trades. Well-trained craftspeople are in extremely high demand, and many of the students who have completed the course over the past several years have begun working in the field of preservation carpentry.

The Wood Window Rehabilitation class will take place Wednesday evenings and select Saturdays, from March 16 through May 7. Students can register at www.hvcc.edu/workforce, call (518) 629-4111 or email workforce@hvcc.edu.
