Historic Cherry Hill Launches Collection Connection Campaign

As the $2 million restoration of Albany’s best-documented historic site accelerates toward the finish line, Historic Cherry Hill is launching the Collection Connection—a high-profile campaign that will enhance and beautify public access to the museum’s Edward Frisbee Center for Collections & Research and connect the center to the grounds of the 1787 Van Rensselaer family home via granite steps. The Frisbee Center houses more than 70,000 objects and documents directly related to the Van Rensselaer family, and, together with the furnishings on display in the house museum, the two facilities attract a growing number of researchers from throughout the Capital District, the United States, and abroad. Cherry Hill is a rare American example of an intact family home spanning five generations, and it is nationally recognized for the excellence of its collections, stewardship, and public programs by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). Of the nearly 2,000 museums in New York State, Historic Cherry Hill is among just 68 that have achieved accreditation by AAM.

The Collection Connection offers a high-profile, tangible opportunity for Capital Region businesses to support this award-winning educational institution. The museum is offering businesses the opportunity to purchase prominently placed full color panels, or granite steps engraved, with their corporate names and/or logos, for $5,000. The opportunity is timely, as Historic Cherry Hill readies itself for the public unveiling of a fully restored historic home.

The Collection Connection Campaign at a launch party and press event on Wednesday, October 5, at which time the business contributors will be recognized as corporate underwriters. After the corporate launch, brick pavers will be sold to hundreds of Cherry Hill supporters over the course of several months. We will prominently feature the campaign and corporate supporters on the museum’s website (www.historiccherryhill.org) and in newspaper articles, on TV, and social media. Corporate sponsors will also receive recognition through signage prominently placed on the site’s South Pearl Street frontage.

Funds raised will be used to complete the restoration effort and fully re-open the historic site for public viewing in 2018.
