Reopening Plans

As Phase Two of reopening in New York State becomes the norm, area libraries are re-establishing limited services.  We are making final preparations to begin contactless curbside pickup service on Tuesday, June 16 (by appointment only) starting with processing hundreds of existing holds that have been dormant on our shelves since mid-March.  Anyone who requested items prior to the pandemic shutdown will be notified and asked to call us to set up their appointment for pick up.  In this way, we can best ensure a smooth and worry-free transaction for everyone involved.  Our hours of operations for these parking lot transactions will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; and Tuesday and Thursday, 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Please note:  at this juncture, only staff in staggered teams will be allowed into our building as we launch this initial phase of service.  We encourage you to stay connected and informed through our website, Facebook and Instagram, and e-news.  As always, feel free to call us at 518.285.0050 or email us at ask.librarian@guilderlandlibrary.org with any questions you might have as we systematically move forward with resuming services safely.  We will post updates on our website as we gradually reintroduce additional levels of service, and we appreciate your patience throughout this transition.

Summer Reading Program

Summer reading registration is underway!  Children, teens and adults – literally everyone – is invited to join our literary journey to Imagine Your Story.  It’s a great way to stay engaged and intellectually stimulated over the summer months.  Participants can log their reading activities in Beanstack and earn chances to win prizes!  Sign up today at:  https://guilderlandlibrary.org/srp/ and start logging your reading Monday, June 22.  Also on this web page, check out virtual events for all ages, teen selections, storytimes, school resources and more.

Drag Race Trivia

We’re celebrating Pride Month with a fabulously fun night of RuPaul’s Drag Race Trivia on Tuesday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m.  Teens and adults, join our popular Trivia Tuesday night by answering questions about this favorite multiple Emmy-winning reality competition.  Play along from home individually or recruit your team members.  Team captains ages 16+ will be responsible for communicating to the library hosts, and anyone that needs the virtual meeting login information can register by going to the Events tab on www.guilderlandlibrary.org.  Will you “sashay away” a winner?  Start your engines, and may the best team win!

Personal Enrichment Classes

We’re collaborating with Albany Guardian Society to offer several virtual programs we think you’ll enjoy! All classes will be held through the videoconference platform Zoom. Registration is required by calling AGS at 518.434.2140.  When registering, let them know you are a GPL patron. You’ll receive a link to the Zoom session via email the day before the event.  AGS can provide further instructions on Zoom if you’ve never used it.

On Thursday, June 18 at 1:30 p.m., we’ll learn how to “Boost the Benefits of Plants in Your Diet.”  This class will cover how to maximize the vitamins and minerals in the fruits and veggies you grow, and how preparing your produce cultivates distinct health benefits. The presenter is Amanda Vrsalovic, garden educator at Capital Roots. Please call AGS at 518.434.2140 to register.

Digital Organization Sampler

Note taking, checklists, idea boards…the Internet is home to a variety of free tools and apps designed to help you get organized. Where to begin?  Take a guided virtual tour on Thursday, June 18 at 6:00 p.m. of the best tools you can use to tame the mayhem, stay on deadline, keep it all straight, and otherwise streamline your life. This event will be held via gotomeeting.com, so registrants will need to set up an account on that site in advance. You’ll receive the webinar link two hours before class via email. Please provide your email and library card barcode for the meeting invite when you register through the Events tab of our website.

Board of Trustees Meeting

The Guilderland Public Library Board of Trustees will hold a virtual Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, June 18 at 6:00 p.m., streamed live on our Facebook page. Public commentary before and during the meeting may be directed to: pio@guilderlandlibrary.org.

Employment Resources

Libraries are a trusted resource for many applications, including job searches.  We’ve compiled a convenient Guide to Job Information Resources, posted here:  www.guilderlandlibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/Job-Information-Page-PDF.pdf.  You’ll find a slew of employment websites, links to businesses hiring, downloadable books for career development, job hunting strategies, and more.
