Governor Cuomo Signs New York State Sunday Brunch Legislation

Governor Cuomo signed legislation into law today that will immediately allow restaurants, hotels and bars to sell alcohol on Sundays starting at 10:00 a.m., rather than at noon.

Many establishments that had to deny customers Mimosas or Blood Marys ordered with their Sunday morning brunch welcome the new law. The new law also includes a provision that allows certain licensed establishments to apply for one-day permits to sell alcohol between 8:00am and 10:00am.

This is welcome news to sports fans of upcoming NFL games hosted in London, England and European sporting events, which are often televised in the early morning hours on the east coast. The new law allows premises located outside of New York City the ability to apply for 12 one-day permits each year. This provision is scheduled to take effect in 60 days.
