Globalfoundries Names Grant Mcewan General Manager Of Its Manufacturing Facility In New York

Semiconductor industry veteran to lead GF’s advanced U.S. manufacturing site and its 2,500-person workforce as the company strengthens its U.S. manufacturing operations

GlobalFoundries (GF) announced the appointment of Grant McEwan as general manager of its advanced U.S. semiconductor manufacturing facility in Malta, New York. In this role, McEwan will lead day-to-day operations of the site that employs approximately 2,500 people and serves as a cornerstone of the Capital Region economy, New York’s semiconductor corridor and U.S. domestic chip production. The site delivers advanced semiconductor technologies for high-performance, security-critical applications and is a designated U.S. Department of Homeland Security site and a Trusted Foundry.

McEwan brings more than 30 years of semiconductor industry experience and deep expertise across manufacturing, engineering and global operations. He joins GF from NXP Semiconductors, where he most recently led global operations strategy and sustainability. In that role, he oversaw the construction of a new 300mm joint venture fab in Singapore. Across earlier leadership roles at NXP and Freescale Semiconductor, he built a strong track record of running complex manufacturing organizations and delivering performance at scale.

The GF New York site produces essential semiconductors for key end markets, including automotive, aerospace and defense, data center and smart mobile devices. It is a critical part of GF’s global manufacturing footprint and of the trusted U.S. manufacturing base supporting GF’s newest initiatives, including Quantum Technology Solutions (QTS), the business GF launched in 2026 to scale domestic manufacturing for utility-scale quantum computing.

McEwan succeeds Hui Peng Koh, who is moving into a new role focused on advancing GF’s quantum technology roadmap and growth strategy, a critical priority as the company builds the capabilities and ecosystem to support customers as quantum technologies evolve.

McEwan holds an MBA in technology management from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Glasgow Caledonian University.
