Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York Troop 3822 “Gaga Ball” Pit Ribbon Cutting

The Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York Troop 3822 recently completed a fantastic project at the Luther Forest Athletic Fields (30 Rocket Drive) in the Town of Malta for their 2024 Bronze Award! The newly built “Gaga Ball” Pit, one of the first in the Capital Region, provides recreational and exercise opportunities for children of varying skills and agility. Originating in Israel, Gaga Ball is a form of dodgeball that is less reliant on brute force compared to the traditional “Bombardment” game. The girls showcased how it’s played for our dignitaries after the ceremony.

The project involved building a wooden structure around the stone donated by BDB Paving, with wood provided by 84 Lumber Company. The initiative was done in conjunction with the Town of Malta. Supervisor Cynthia Young and Parks and Recreation Director Kristan Gottmann were present alongside Senator Jim Tedisco, Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh, and Kimberly Milligan, representing Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner, to help the girls cut the Capital Region Chamber’s ribbon. Each participating Scout received a congratulatory citation co-signed by Assemblywomen Walsh and Woerner, and one by Senator Tedisco.

The girls from Troop 3822 learned valuable skills while building this pit, which will benefit them in the future. It was truly inspiring to hear them share, in their own words, the significance of this project to them and their friends and families.
