GF Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Program: Building STEM Careers & Semiconductor Manufacturing Workforce in the Capital Region!

GlobalFoundries® (GF®) announced the launch of its GF Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Program at Fab 8, which offers candidates a unique opportunity to develop semiconductor experience while working in the field.

GF has partnered with SEMI (formerly Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International) to offer the competency-based SEMI Industry Approved Apprenticeship Program at Fab 8. The apprenticeship is an 18-month Maintenance Technician training program at GF’s Fab 8 manufacturing facility in Malta, NY. Training includes a combination of on-the-job-training, instructor-led classes, web-based courses, and college courses.

While in the program, participants will be employed by GF full-time and follow a learning plan that will include a combination of on-the-job training, required courses for job specific training, as well as career development courses.

Apprenticeship program college courses are offered online through Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC), recognized under the SEMI Certs program.

These courses align to industry standards and employees will receive college credits that can be used towards a degree. Apprenticeship participants are granted a $5,000 tuition credit toward these college courses only through HVCC. The program offers a great opportunity to build industry experience and attend college courses while receiving full-time pay and benefits.

Program Details & Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of on-the-job training hours
• Completion of four grant funded college courses at Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC)*
• Completion of hands-on mechanical training provided through HVCC*
* All required training will be provided as part of employment at no cost.
