Garrity, Fukamachi and Sakai Show Well at ITAs

Three Siena women’s tennis players delivered strong performances in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Division I Regional this weekend on the campus of Dartmouth College.

Juniors Ali Garrity and Mitsuki Fukamachi picked up an 8-6 doubles victory over Emma Burgess and Alana Prinos of Brown University to advance to the Round of 32 where they fell 8-3 to Tina Jiang and Valarie Shklover of Yale.

In the open singles draw, sophomore Rina Sakai received a bye in the First Round before dropping a 6-3 and 6-2 decision to Columbia’s Alex Solovyev.

“I’m proud of the way the ladies played and represented Siena,” first year head coach Jeff Osborn said. “They faced some of the top competition in the region and acquitted themselves admirably. Now, we will get back to work and focus on the championship season this spring.”

The Saints went 3-0 in dual match competition this fall.
