From Home Bakery to Storefront: Scotia Sweets Opens in Glenville

A large crowd of community leaders, supporters, customers, and local business representatives gathered in Glenville on October 8 to celebrate the grand opening of Scotia Sweets, a new brick-and-mortar bakeshop at 35 Freemans Bridge Road.

Owner Leigh Baker shared the story behind Scotia Sweets, which began as a home-based business and built a loyal following over the past five years through pop-ups, wholesale partnerships, preorders, and porch pickups before expanding into its first storefront.

Remarks were offered by Bob Kirkham, Supervisor of the Town of Glenville, who congratulated the business on this milestone and welcomed its continued investment in the community. Leigh Baker reflected on a lifelong passion for food, creativity, and serving others, while expressing gratitude to the customers, supporters, and team members whose encouragement helped make the new location possible.

Scotia Sweets produces its menu in-house and from scratch daily, including baked goods and specialty coffee offerings. The menu changes monthly and features vegan, gluten-free, and savory options, giving customers fresh reasons to return throughout the year.

All 2026 ribbon cuttings of the Capital Region Chamber and its affiliates are sponsored by Community Bank, N.A.
