For Immediate Release: SiCM to Host Phil Grigsby Memorial CROP Hunger Walk Virtual Kick Off Sunday 5/1/22

Join SiCM for the Virtual Kick Off of the 2022 Phil Grigsby Memorial-Schenectady CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at 12:30PM at facebook.com/SiCMNY.

Looking to make a difference in our local communities and around the world, SiCM strives to engage with partners in Schenectady, the Capital Region, and throughout the world to find long-term sustainable approaches that address the core causes of poverty and hunger. In partnership with Church World Services, CROP Hunger Walk is an opportunity to raise awareness about the issues of food access locally and globally. 25% of funds raised at the Schenectady CROP Hunger Walk will go to support the SiCM food access programs. This year, SiCM and churches throughout the county will join thousands of communities nationwide around the theme “Ending hunger one step at a time.” Many of the walkers will be wearing t-shirts proclaiming their solidarity with the millions of neighbors around the world who must walk to live — as well as with the millions served by local food pantries, food banks and meal sites here in the U.S. These local ministries benefit from the funds raised by CROP Hunger Walks.

On Sunday, May 1st, SiCM will host a Virtual Kick Off via facebook (facebook.com/SiCMNY) at 12:30PM. The virtual event will feature guest speakers including Schenectady County Legislator Michelle Ostrelich (District 3), chair of the county’s Health, Housing and Human Services Committee, and SiCM’s Executive Director, Rev. Amaury Tañón-Santos. The program will include the presentation of the Sister Rachel Award – recognizing outstanding volunteerism and CROP Walk participation.

From combating droughts in Nicaragua to providing agricultural training in Indonesia, to stocking shelves in hundreds of food pantries across the United States, CROP Hunger Walks are fighting hunger.
