Flagship Scottish Store and Tartan Hub Opens in Latham New York

The Chamber was delighted to participate in the official opening and ribbon cutting of ScotlandShop in Latham on March 8th.  The Chamber was joined by its Ambassadors, local elected officials and the business community.

ScotlandShop, a popular purveyor of high-quality Scottish fashion, textiles, and home décor will be opening their first ever US store in Latham, NY.

With over 500 clan tartans available, the shop will offer an exciting array of Scottish clothing, accessories, and interiors.

Knowledgeable staff will help visitors create matching styles from their collections of beautiful tartans, with options for the whole family.  From sophisticated tartan dresses and stylish trainers to chic vests and caps, the thoughtfully and sustainably made garments can be adapted and tailored to find the most comfortable and stylish fit for any visitor.  All the tartan fabrics used are proudly woven in Scotland, with the vast majority produced in The Scottish Borders – a hub of excellence for textiles and weaving.

The official launch will see an afternoon of hospitality and merriment:  Attendees will enjoy some toe-tapping Scottish music, along with a feast of delicious food and drink directly from Scotland’s bountiful larder.   Select beverages will also be available from New York State’s own New Scotland Spirits. After the official ribbon cutting, guests will be the first to be welcomed into the custom-built store for refreshments and the chance to sample the newly arrived stock.

ScotlandShop hopes to become a hub for local events and Scottish celebrations – sharing the best of Scotland’s modern culture and notable heritage.  They aim to bring visitors from far and wide to the area, showcasing the wonderful attributes of the region.

The company is gifting Albany County with its very own tartan, created to symbolize the restrengthened bond between the region and Scotland.  The design highlights the strong Scottish heritage found throughout the area. The colors are taken from the Albany County Seal, The Town of Colonie Seal, and The City of Albany Flag. The sett (design) was inspired by the Stewart Clan tartans.

The opening of the shop will also mark an exciting moment for anyone planning a wedding. Whether the happy couple want to make their celebration completely Scottish themed, or just add a delicate touch of something tartan, ScotlandShop’s experts are now on hand to help and advise.  They can provide everything from a silk tartan garter to a discreet wedding shoe for the bride; a full kilt suit to a set of cufflinks for the groom; tartan clothing for kids; and a plethora of wedding gifts and decorations, including tableware, fabric, cushions, and custom ribbon.

To compliment the launch of the store, ScotlandShop are also promoting a range of pop-up events in March and April in Manhattan and Boston, where clients can be measured, get advice, enjoy ancestral research, and take advantage of expert assistance in picking the perfect tartan to create a bespoke item.  There is a similar service available via Zoom too, for those who cannot make it in person.

All ribbon cuttings are sponsored by Saratoga National Bank and Trust Company.
