First New York Federal Credit Union today announced the planned retirement of its President and CEO, Lucy Halstead. After a distinguished career spanning over two decades at the credit union, Halstead will officially retire in early 2026. She will remain CEO while First New York’s Board of Directors conducts a national search for her successor.
Halstead joined First New York in 1998 as Vice President of Operations and quickly became an integral part of the organization. Her leadership and strategic vision have driven the credit union’s growth and success. Under her guidance, First New York has expanded its membership base, enhanced its product offerings, and strengthened its commitment to the community. She assumed the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in 2006, and became President and CEO in 2013.
“Lucy has been an exceptional leader and a dedicated advocate for our members,” said Brian Krawiecki, Chair of First New York’s Board of Directors. “We are incredibly grateful for her contributions and wish her all the best in her retirement.”
During her tenure, Halstead has overseen numerous initiatives to improve the member experience, including developing innovative digital banking solutions and expanding branch locations. She has also been actively involved in various community organizations, promoting financial literacy and supporting local causes.
“It has been an honor to serve as President and CEO of First New York,” said Halstead. “It’s my favorite job I ever had. I am proud of our accomplishments together and confident that the credit union will continue to thrive. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Board of Directors, the dedicated team members, and our valued members for their unwavering support.”
A graduate of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School, Halstead earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Communications from The College of Saint Rose. Halstead also attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking program designed for financial professionals. She sits on the Board of Trustees for Catholic Charities Tri-County Services and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Capital Region Chamber Foundation.
