ESYO Presents Annual Playathon at Crossgates Mall on February 4

On February 4, 2017 at Crossgates Mall, more than 400 musicians of the Empire State Youth Orchestras (ESYO) will transform the shopping center into a symphony hall for its annual Playathon. This free, family event will take place from 11 a.m. through 6:30 p.m. and will showcase 11 ESYO ensembles–from the deep rumble of the percussion ensembles to the uplifting trills of the wind orchestra.

“This marathon display of musical talent is more than simply a community concert,” said Executive Director Rebecca Calos. “It is also ESYO’s largest fundraiser, helping us ensure no qualified musician is ever turned away from the ESYO Experience because of inability to pay.”

In addition to a full day of music provide by the ESYO ensembles:

“Crazy Conductor” Will Auction His Baton to Lead the Orchestra

During Playathon, ESYO’s Crazy Conductor will run six auctions during which the audience can bid to win the baton and lead one of ESYO’s ensembles.

Musical Petting Zoo

Just a few storefronts away from the “main stage” there will be a “Musical Instrument Petting Zoo,” courtesy of John Keal Music Co.  Aspiring young (and young-at-heart) musicians are invited to try out various instruments at the zoo.
