Renowned pianist Paul Lewis performs on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in Memorial Chapel.
The Series welcomes back the elegant British pianist in a program of Haydn’s C-major (Hob. XVI:50) and G-major (Hob. XVI:40) sonatas, Beethoven’s Six Bagatelles, Op. 126, and Brahms’s 6 Klavierstücke, Op. 118.
Paul Lewis is regarded as one of the leading musicians of his generation. His recent cycles of core piano works by Beethoven and Schubert have received unanimous critical and public acclaim worldwide, and consolidated his reputation as one of the world’s foremost interpreters of the central European classical repertoire. His numerous awards have included the Royal
Philharmonic Society’s Instrumentalist of the Year, two Edison awards, three Gramophone awards, the Diapason D’or, among many others.
He performs regularly as soloist with the world’s great orchestras, including the Boston, Chicago, London, Bavarian Radio, and NHK symphonies; the New York and Los Angeles philharmonics; and the orchestras of the Royal Concertgebouw and Leipzig Gewandhaus. He is also a frequent guest at the world’s most prestigious festivals, including Lucerne, Mostly Mozart (New York), Tanglewood, Schubertiade, Salzburg, Edinburgh, La Roque d’Antheron, Rheingau, Klavier Festival Ruhr, and London’s BBC Proms. He has performed recitals at all the major international venues including Carnegie Hall, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, among others.
