ESAM Celebrates 70th Anniversary of GE Flight Test Center

On Saturday, August 6 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., a celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the GE Flight Test Center at its original site, now known as the the Empire State Aerosciences Museum (ESAM). The General Electric Company constructed a hanger in 1946 at the Schenectady County Airport to assist the United States in developing rocket technology and jet engines. GE was the first major industrial company to build rockets in the USA, and in the 50s, the Center was used to test engines and other armaments for military aircraft.

Event Highlights:

  • Opening Ceremonies featuring officials from General Electric and other dignitaries from the county and town and State government.
  • Parasailers, Sky Divers, and other aerial demonstrations
  • 12:00- 1:30 – Stewart’s Shops – Free ice cream cones
  • 12:30 – 1:30 – Demonstration by the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Department Canine Unit
  • Bouncy Bounce
  • Many activities for the kids including building and launching stick rockets.
