Electric City Comic Con is Saturday, July 9

The Schenectady Public Library is holding its second comic book convention on Saturday, July 9, from 10:00 am – 4:00pm. Admission to Electric City Comic Con is free.

Comic books have been a part of America’s reading experience for generations and the library is bringing together a full day of events to celebrate the artists who captivate our imaginations.

Visitors of all ages can expect to participate in free programs, workshops and meet comic book professionals throughout the day. Artists Alley features over a dozen comic book authors and illustrators such as Greg Capullo (Batman,) Dave Roman (Astronaut Academy,) Jacob Chabot (Hello Kitty) and Frank Cammuso (Knights of the Lunch Table.) Outside in the library plaza purchase comics, handmade illustrations and crafts from our “Comics Commons” artists.

Things kick-off at 10:15am with the audience participatory improv drawing game: “the Drawbstacle Course.” At 11:00am meet Dave Roman with an author talk and book signing. Parents, kids and teens can learn all about the history of comics at12:00pm. From 12:00-2:00 meet Batman and Spawn artist Greg Capullo for an author signing. At 1:00 show off your drawing skills in the Scribble Scramble game show. Join forces with a professional cartoonists at 2:00 in our Comics Quickfire event.

Cosplayers and amateur costume enthusiasts can enter The Costumer Cosplay Contest at 3pm to compete for prizes. Winners will be announced in both children’s and teen/adult categories so dress the whole family!

All day long stop by the children’s room for a drop-in craft and to borrow comics by some of our featured artists.
