Electric City Comic Con A Free Family Fun Event to Inspire Creativity!

The Schenectady County Public Library is holding its third comic book convention on Saturday, July 8, from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Admission to Electric City Comic Con is free.

Comic books have been a part of America’s reading experience for generations and the library is bringing together a full day of events to celebrate the artists who captivate our imaginations.

Visitors of all ages can expect to participate in free programs, workshops and meet comic book professionals throughout the day. Artists Alley features over a dozen comic book authors and illustrators such as Erik Craddock (Stone Rabbit,) Bill Anderson (Silver Surfer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,) Alisa Harris (Urban Nomad) and TJ Kirsch (Pride of the Decent Man.) Outside in the library plaza purchase comics, toys, handmade illustrations and crafts from our “Comics Commons” artists.

The festivities kick-off at 10:30 am with our Storytelling Showdown which pits three artists against each other in a drawing battle of wits! At 12:00 pm, Brooklyn artist Tom Eaton will screen his short film “Bug Zapper: the Birthday Bug” and will demonstrate his unique animation style. Starting at 1:30 we are having a Panel Party where audience participate is highly encouraged and fun is contagious.

Cosplayers and amateur costume enthusiasts can enter The Costumer Cosplay Contest at 3pm to compete for prizes. Winners will be announced in both children’s and teen/adult categories so dress the whole family!

All day long stop by the children’s room for a drop-in craft and to borrow comics by some of our featured artists.
