July 3, 2019Electric City Comic Con Brings Families & Comic Fans Together
The Schenectady County Public Library is holding its fifth comic book convention on Saturday, July 13, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Hon. Karen B. Johnson Central Library.
Comic books have been a part of America’s reading experience for generations and the library is bringing together a full day of events to celebrate the artists and writers who captivate our imaginations.
Visitors of all ages can expect to participate in free programs, workshops and meet comic book professionals throughout the day. Artists Alley features comic book authors and illustrators such as Charles Barnett III (Avengers, Captain America,) Allison Conway (Bare Bones,) Phil McAndrew (Cave Boy Dave) and Molly Brooks (Sanity & Tallulah.) Outside in the library plaza purchase vintage comics, toys, games, handmade illustrations, costumes and crafts from our “Comics Commons” vendors. Upstate Merch will be doing live screen printing of four limited edition Electric City Comic Con t-shirts with a portion of all proceeds benefit the Friends of SCPL.
“We cannot believe it has been five years since we started this amazing convention that seems to grow and become more beloved each year” says Leah LaFera, Adult Programming Coordinator and Chair of the Electric City Comic Con Committee. “We work diligently to make sure we are bringing our community something fresh and engaging. We scout out artists and vendors all year long looking for the best people to complement our creative vibe. I think that is part of the reason we have so many loyal comic fans that look forward to Electric City Comic Con every July.”
The festivities kick-off at 10:30 am with the Drawbstacle Course which challenges artists to create life sized comic strips using only audience suggestions. At 12:00 join the Costumer and other local cosplayers to learn everything you ever wanted to know about Cosplay. Iron Cartoonist, our battle of wits is back and will kick-off the afternoon at 1:30pm.
Cosplayers and amateur costume enthusiasts can enter The Costumer Cosplay Contest at 3pm to compete for cash prizes. Winners will be announced in both children’s and teen/adult categories so dress the whole family!
From 11:00-3:00 stop by the children’s room to make a piece of art with C.R.E.A.T.E Studios and to borrow comics by some of our featured artists.
Admission to Electric City Comic Con is free.
