Educators, Artists and Entrepreneurs to Present Timely and Diverse Talks at New Sage Lecture Series

Resilience for teachers; art from the data tracks we leave behind; applying entrepreneurial-thinking to your career plan; and New York’s health care landscape will be discussed at a spring lecture series offered by Sage College of Albany’s Alumni Association.

The Sage College of Albany Alumni Association Presents: The Professional Lecture Series, which will host leaders in education, the visual arts, business and health care on Thursdays this April. The speakers and topics were inspired by the academic programs at Sage College of Albany and Sage’s Esteves School of Education, School of Management and School of Health Sciences.

Life sciences entrepreneurs Chet Opalka and Laurie Halloran will discuss how they leveraged their science and health sciences degrees for business success at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 19, at the Opalka Gallery at Sage College of Albany, 140 New Scotland Ave, Albany. Now retired, Opalka is cofounder of Albany Molecular Research, Inc., a chemistry services provider to the life science industry. Today, he invests in science-based startups and is a board member and benefactor for several cultural organizations. A former pediatric intensive care unit nurse,Halloran is president and CEO of Boston-based Halloran Consulting Group, which helps life sciences companies with the regulatory, clinical and operational requirements of product development. She has been named 2018 Women’s Business Enterprise Star by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council and a 2017 Enterprising Women of the Year by Enterprising Women Magazine.

Bea Grause, R.N., J.D., president of the Healthcare Association of New York State, will speak on New York’s changing health care landscape at a special breakfast program at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, April 26, at the Opalka Gallery at Sage College of Albany, 140 New Scotland Ave, Albany. Admission to the lecture and continental breakfast is $10. As president of HANYS since 2016, Grause leads the association’s work to help New York’s health care organizations navigate health care reform. She previously led the Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems; served on the staffs of former Congressman Norman Mineta and former Representative Joseph Kennedy II; held senior positions with the Massachusetts and Tennessee hospital associations; and practiced law with a focus on Medicare legislative and regulatory issues.
