Dementia & Alzheimer’s Expert Teepa Snow to Speak on Caregiving

Baptist Health System will present nationally recognized dementia and Alzheimer’s expert Teepa Snow in a full day interactive education seminar to help professional and family caregivers understand and deal with challenging behaviors. The seminar will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 2 from 8 am to 4 pm at Proctor’s GE Theater in Schenectady. Continuing education credit is available for nurses and social worker who attend the seminar.

“This is a rare opportunity for family caregivers, as well as health care professionals, to experience one of Teepa Snow’s presentations, which have been described as life changing,” said Nancy McKiernan, Acting Director of Marketing and Development at Baptist Health System.

An occupational therapist by trade, Teepa Snow provides interactive and creative educational and practical hands-on training sessions to organizations and providers throughout the US, Canada, Australia and the UK. She has impacted hundreds of organizations worldwide with her education, now sold in over 30 countries. Teepa’s personal mission is to help others better understand how it feels to be living with dementia. She utilizes her gifts of role play to demonstrate behavioral states and stages of dementia, resulting in greater understanding for her audiences.

Teepa Snow graduated from Duke University and has an MS degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She has over 35 years of clinical experience in the field of geriatrics and dementia care, as well as having provided care to family members with dementing illnesses. Her advocacy efforts led her to the development of the GEMS® dementia classification model and the Positive Approach® to Care training strategies.
