Demanding An End to Gender-Based Violence

YWCA NorthEastern NY invites the community to participate in our annual Take Back the Night March. Join us on Thursday, October 17, 2019 as we take to the streets and demand an end to violence against women! The March will start and end at the front steps of YWCA NorthEastern NY, 44 Washington Ave, Schenectady, NY 12305.

Attendees are invited to gather for light refreshments at 5:30PM. There will be a brief program at 6:00PM, featuring several speakers including: welcome by Carole Merrill-Mazurek, YWCA NENY Board President; remarks by Lauren Trunko, YWCA NENY Director of Women & Family Services; musical performance by Kevin Green & Josh Sheridan; remarks by Dennis Green, co-founder of Boys Day Out & Assistant Director at WIEC; a presentation of the 1st Annual Champion of Hope Award; & closing by Kim Siciliano, YWCA NENY Executive Director.

Following the program, participants will take a short loop through the Stockade.

Attendees are encouraged to wear purple, the color of domestic violence awareness, and to bring a flashlight. Participants who are part of an organization or agency are invited to bring a sign for the group they are representing. This is a family friendly event with a police escort.

We hope many of our community members will march with us to show their support for stopping rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, and gender-based violence in our community and beyond.

This is a rain or shine program. In the event of rain/inclement weather, the program portion of the evening will be held inside YWCA NENY’s main building.
