David Rockwell, M.D. to be Honored at Annual Celebration for Care Choices

Rockwell David RDavid Rockwell, M.D. will be honored at The Visiting Nurse Service Foundation & The Foundation for Ellis Medicine’s second annual Care Choices Celebration on April 15 at the Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia.

Rockwell has been chief of infectious disease since 1978 when he first joined Ellis Medicine, the first physician trained in the subspecialty of infectious disease devoted to this community.

Rockwell has been an advocate for palliative care in the community and has set the standard for excellence in compassionate healthcare for more than 30 years. His dedication to his patients and their care exemplifies the best principles of palliative care medicine.

The celebration will feature an evening of fine dining and dancing with friends, colleagues and supporters. Proceeds from this event support Care Choices, the new palliative home care program that is transforming care for those with advanced illness in the community. The program specifically serves those with advanced or life limiting illness (e.g., cancer, dementia, COPD, congestive heart failure, etc.) and supports the patient’s goals of care during this stage of life up to the time he or she may be referred to hospice. Caregivers may focus on pain management and symptom control so patients can live peacefully in the comfort of their own homes.

Since 2013, Care Choices has brought expert advanced illness care to hundreds of patients and their families in the community. In an independent study of Care Choices, outcomes reported in a national journal have shown high levels of patient satisfaction and decreased utilization of both emergency and inpatient services for many of the sickest members of the community.
