June 26, 2017Crossroads Center for Children Receives Grant from Ronald McDonald House Charities
Crossroads Center for Children is excited to announce that we have been chosen to receive a grant from the Ronald McDonald House Charities to support our iPad program.
Crossroads Center for Children, of Schenectady, New York, is a not-for-profit school where young children with autism spectrum disorders learn and grow alongside their more typically developing peers. The mission of Crossroads is to prepare individuals with and without developmental disabilities for life success within their family and community.
Since Crossroads opened in 1998, the school has served increasing numbers of children with and without disabilities, and we have increased the scope of our programs in order to meet the growing needs of our community. Our goal is to ensure that all of our students learn the academic and social skills they need to be successful in their family, community and school classroom.
Although we do receive some government funding in the form of tuition payments, this money does not cover all of the costs of running a successful and effective educational program. In order to ensure that all of our young students learn the academic and social skills they need to become fully productive citizens within their homes, schools and communities we must rely on financial support from our community in the way of fundraising, donations, and grants.
Crossroads applied for a grant from Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region to support our iPad Program, a program which is foundational in teaching our students critical communication and language skills, amongst other skills and concepts. RMHC selected our project and will be presenting a check to Crossroads on July 12th at 9:00 a.m. with Ronald McDonald in person.
Over the past 25 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) has awarded more than $100 million in funding through its Global Grants Program to nonprofits to extend its reach and impact on children’s health and well-being worldwide. As RMHC and their network of local Chapters keep families close to each other and the care they need through their core programs, they also work with a select group of nonprofit organizations around the world that are making an immediate, positive impact on children.
Specifically in the Capital Region, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) extends its reach to the broader community by awarding grants to other 501(c)(3) local charitable organizations and programs that directly improve the lives of children. Twice yearly, their grants committee carefully screens applications from area nonprofit organizations operating in regions served by our local McDonald’s restaurants. Beneficiaries of RMHC grants are local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that have demonstrated an ability to respond to the needs of children and their families in a definitive, hands-on manner, yielding measurable results. Since 1996, RMHC has awarded more than $1 million locally for worthwhile, sustainable, child-centered programs and services in the areas of health care, education and the arts, and civic and social services.
We are delighted, proud, and honored to be selected by RMHC, and are thrilled to have their help to run this important program for our students.
