Crossroads Center for Children is excited to announce that they have received a $5,000 grant from the Rite Aid Foundation KidCents Program in support of the KidCents Holiday Wishes initiative.

Crossroads Center for Children is a not-for-profit school located in Schenectady, NY which serves children from all over the Capital Region. Children with and without special developmental needs, especially autism, learn and grow together in preschool classrooms. Crossroads also provides self-contained classrooms for its school-aged student population. The mission of Crossroads is to prepare individuals with and without developmental disabilities for life success within their family and community. Throughout the program, this mission is implemented using a philosophy and methodology of applied behavior analysis (ABA).

Since opening in 1998, the school has served increasing numbers of children with and without disabilities, and has increased the scope of their programming in order to meet the needs of a growing community. Their goal is to ensure that all students learn the academic, life and social skills they need to function as successful members of their families, communities and school classrooms.

Although Crossroads does receive some government funding in the form of tuition payments, this money does not cover all of the costs of running a successful and effective educational program to meet significant instructional needs. In order to ensure that all students progress and become successful in school and in the community, financial support from the community in the way of fundraising, donations, and grants is critically needed.

Crossroads Center for Children has been a KidCents charity for four years and has been a beneficiary of the Rite Aid Foundation’s generosity on several occasions. Crossroads is thrilled to have received this grant and plans to use this money to make a Holiday Wish come true – improving the environment of the students’ cafeteria by purchasing school cafeteria tables and dividers. These items were part of the space in the previous building that housed Crossroads, but nearly 10 years ago were lost in a water-main break that forced the school to relocate. Since then, funding priorities have not allowed for the replacement of these items, until now through Holiday Wishes.

The Rite Aid Foundation KidCents Program was recognized at Crossroads Center for Children’s annual gala in April, 2017 with a Connecting the Community award. The KidCents Program allows Rite Aid customers to round up their purchases to support the efforts of community organizations such as Crossroads Center for Children. With this grant, Rite Aid aims to recognize Crossroads and other organizations for all they do throughout the year to make a difference in the lives of children in our communities, to support their efforts to improve the health, safety and well-being of children in their community.
