Cosmetology Career Fair to Connect employers with Capital Region BOCES Students Job Candidates

Nearly two dozen salons and businesses will take part in a national CTE Month event designed to match Capital Region BOCES Cosmetology students with prospective employers.

The Feb.13 event has drawn the interest of salons—such as Grit and Grace Salon in Latham, Sensational Hair Design in Albany and Plush Hair Studio in Saratoga—who are interested in recruiting the approximately 100 students enrolled in the two-year Cosmetology program.
The event runs from 8:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. with breaks for a lunch and a meeting among faculty, staff and cosmetology business leaders.

Graduates of the program say it is the perfect way to enter the workforce in the beauty industry, “You can do anything you want with a cosmetology education,” said Katie Morgan, 2019 graduate from Shenendehowa. “Because of the training you receive, there is such a wide variety of options from hair to skin care open to you.”

Senior Tessa Venditti will be among the students exploring her options during the career fair. “I plan to go to school after I graduate while working in a salon and doing skin care,” the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake senior said.

Capital Region BOCES works with more than 300 business, union and education partners to help fuel the regional and state economies. Through these partnerships, students are able to launch careers directly out of high school or land jobs that will help them pay for future educational opportunities.

Many of these partners will take place in career fairs BOCES will host later this school year. Those events are scheduled for:

• March 29 – Schoharie Campus Career Fair, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The campus is located at 174 State Route 30A, Schoharie, NY 12157

• April 4 – Albany Campus Career Fair, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The campus is Located at 925B Watervliet-Shaker Road, Albany, NY 12205
