Cornell Cooperative Extension Seeks Businesses for “Nourish Your Neighbor” Food Drive

Did you know that over 140,000 people are food insecure in the Capital Region?  That’s one out of every ten people!

Food pantries fill the gap for families that struggle to make ends meet, but many of the donations they typically receive are high in sugar, fat, sodium, and calories, and often lack other important nutrients. This can be especially hard on children and those living with chronic disease.  A healthy food drive emphasizes more nutritious foods such as brown rice, low-sodium canned veggies, nuts and seeds, 100% fruit juice, etc.  Organize any group such as employees, clients, sports teams, school groups or church members and give back to your community by hosting a healthy food drive.

We have all the resources to provide to a business or organizations and can provide them with food donation bags, healthy shopping lists, food collection bin posters, promotional flyers, promotional resources and publicity.  All of the materials are free, compliments of the Capital Region Eat Smart New York Program.  In return we ask for basic information about the food drive including the types of food collected.   We can offer also offer a list of food pantries in your community that are eager to distribute healthy foods to their patrons.
