Marion, the co-owner of Cork & Bottle Wine and Spirits, is celebrating five years of remission from
breast cancer. Both her and her husband, Jim, believe in giving back to the community through their store,
which was opened in 2014. In addition to donating to many charities over the years, this event of celebration
will also serve as a weekend of awareness and support.
10% of all wine & spirits sales during the Friday evening Grand Tasting will benefit
Patrick Michael Brooks, a local 3-year-old battling Leukemia.

On December 6, 2016, the lives of the Brooks family of Colonie changed in an instance. After
3-year-old Patrick woke up with hugely swollen eyes, Michelle and her husband, Patrick, rushed him to the
emergency room. By that afternoon, Patzy, as he is affectionately called, was diagnosed with Acute
Myeloid Leukemia (AML)…a very aggressive form of the disease, and was admitted to the hospital
immediately.

Luckily he was diagnosed early and has been responding well to treatments. “He is doing really good. We
couldn’t ask for a better outcome at this point,” shared Michelle. However, he still has a long road ahead.

The family, including 9-year-old brother, Gianni, have had their lives altered. While Patzy is in the hospital for
his rounds of chemo, Michelle and Patrick both work during the days and rotate their overnight stay with Patz.
During the days, they have hired a college student to sit with Patzy, who apparently is taking Albany Medical
Center by storm as he walks through the halls like the mayor, according to Michelle.

When Michelle found out what Marion wanted to do for them through this weekend of celebration and
support, she nearly cried, “I thought it was amazing. What a kind thing to do; I couldn’t believe it.”
