Clarkson University Professor Sherri Duan Receives Outstanding Teaching Award

Clarkson University Assistant Professor of Education Sherri Duan has received the Clarkson University Student Association (CUSA) Outstanding Teaching Award. She is the director of the Chinese Language Master of Arts in Teaching program.

The CUSA Outstanding Teaching Award was established in 1991 by the Student Association to recognize outstanding teaching and contributions to education at Clarkson University.

Duan teaches Chinese Grammar & Linguistics, and Curriculum and Methods in Teaching Chinese. She also provides supervision to Chinese Language resident teachers during their full-year teaching residencies in area schools.

An experienced educator and administrator, Duan has more than two decades of teaching experience at all levels and in multiple settings in both China and the United States. She is the editor in charge of Journal of Research on Chinese Language Teaching. Her publications include her book Research on “Jiang” Constructions from pre-Qin to Sui-Tang Dynasties (Nankai University Press, 2019) and others.

Among her honors, Duan was awarded Outstanding Chinese Teacher in America by the Association of Chinese School in America, and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Capital Region Chinese Culture and Community Center, where she is a board member and past vice president.

Duan received her Ph.D. from Beijing Normal University, her master of science degree in education from the College of St. Rose and her bachelor of arts in music from Hunan Normal University.
