CHA announces the promotions of two distinguished bridge engineers to lead its nationally recognized bridge group. Ryan Cooley, PE, has been named Vice President, Principal Engineer, and Business Practice Leader for Bridges. Michael Sullivan, PE, Principal Engineer and Senior Project Manager, has been named Bridge Project Team Leader for New England.
Ryan Cooley has over 20 years of experience designing, analyzing, and managing bridges and vertical structures. As an engineer and project manager, he has performed the design, load rating, and contract document development for transportation structures throughout New England. He was integral in developing the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s first design-build project, bringing GRS-IBS to several departments of transportation, and implementing accelerated bridge construction (ABC) technologies throughout the region. In his new role, he will oversee a talented team of 110 engineers and technical specialists across the U.S. responsible for assessing, rating, and designing for preserving and replacing bridge structures of varying complexity.
Ryan earned a M.S. in structural engineering and a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Connecticut. He is a licensed professional engineer (PE) in CT, NH, RI, ME, MA, and UT. Ryan is active in the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the American Institute of Steel Construction.
Michael Sullivan has over 18 years of bridge engineering design and project management experience, which includes designing, assessing, and inspecting bridges for state agencies throughout the northeast, including RIDOT, MassDOT, MaineDOT, CTDOT, and MBTA. Michael is experienced in all stages of planning, design, contract delivery, project management, and construction of bridges. In his new role, he will oversee the delivery of all bridge projects in New England.
Michael earned an M.B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and a B.S. in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is a licensed professional engineer (PE) in CT, NY, RI, and MA. Michael is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Boston Society of Engineers, and a frequent speaker and writer for the transportation sector.
