Albany, NY – On June 15, 2015, The Chief Executives Network for Manufacturing of the Capital Region, Inc. (CEN), an affiliate of the Center for Economic Growth (CEG), recognized 8 area high school and college students who are either currently enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, a major which will lead to employment with a manufacturer. Each recipient of the 2015 CEN Manufacturing Scholarship was awarded a 1 year, $1,000 scholarship, to be used towards college expenses. The students were presented their awards at the 15th Annual CEN Scholarship Golf Day at the Edison Club in Rexford, NY.

Out of 43 applications from some of the top students in the Capital Region, this year’s 8 winners include: Ian Walter Allen, Carnegie Mellon University; Jared Slosberg, George Washington University; Jeremy Spiezio, Princeton University; Robert Szpak, SUNY Binghamton; Rachel Tenney, Lafayette College; Fred Tracy, Clarkson University; Nathan Wager, Hudson Valley Community College; and Andrew Walzer, Clarkson University.

The 35 applicants who were not selected each received a $50 Target gift card to be used to purchase school supplies, as a way of showing CEN’s appreciation for their interest in manufacturing as well as their dedication to their studies.

Over the course of 15 years, the CEN Scholarship Golf Day has raised thousands of dollars and awarded scholarships to many bright and inspiring area high school and college students. States John Tattersall, President of FMP and current CEN President, “CEN is proud to support our young adults who have chosen a path in the manufacturing field.  All of our scholarship winners, both past and present, are tremendously accomplished students with a strong desire to make a difference in their careers. Our leaders at the national and state level now recognize that American manufacturing is vital to our country’s economic well-being. We are pleased to encourage and support these students, while in turn supporting America’s future. Thank you to each of our generous sponsors, and to the Edison Club for their continued support of our event. We look forward to building on this year’s successes with our 16th Annual CEN Scholarship Golf Day in June of 2016.”
