Carpenters Local 291 Volunteers Work on Lawson’s Lake Open Air Pavilion

197-DSC_0094On June 21, 2016 volunteer members along with Council Representatives James Standhart and Peter McAnearney began construction on an open air pavilion for Albany County. Lawson’s Lake is a county owned park that until recent years has been underutilized and almost forgotten. Working hand and hand, with Albany County Executive Dan McCoy and his staff, over the last 2 years the park has over gone a transformation. Now on any given summer day the sounds of laughing inner city children can once again be heard.
Starting the winter of 2014/2015 UBC members renovated the caretakers house and have also spent time the last two summers putting new screen windows and doors in the 30 plus small camp outbuildings. Brian McCoy brother of the county executive who also works for the county has worked tirelessly to make this park accessible for the Albany youth and has made it possible for many groups (including boy scouts, hiking clubs, kayak clubs etc.) to utilize the facility. The official unveiling of the pavilion was on August 9, 2016 with many guests in attendance.
“Growing up in the Catskill Mountains I have been able to enjoy natures beauty all my life even taking it for granted. Seeing the bus loads of kids running and laughing enjoying this beautiful place that otherwise wouldn’t get the chance and all the hard work is worth it.”
