Carillo Corrals MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

Siena Soccer sophomore goalkeeper Gianni Carillo is the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week. The Pine Bush, N.Y. native made a career-high 10 saves to post his fourth shutout in his first nine collegiate matches Wednesday in the Saints key 1-0 road victory at MAAC rival Marist.

Four of Carillo’s 10 saves came over the final 34 minutes with Siena playing down a man. He also improved to a perfect 2-for-2 in saving penalty kicks this season, smothering Simon Lund Jorgensen’s attempt in the 36th minute to preserve the lead.

The first-year collegiate competitor currently ranks 23rd nationally with a .822 save percentage. He also ranks third in the MAAC in goals against average (0.93) and tied for fourth with his four clean sheets despite appearing in just over half of Siena’s matches to date.

Carillo and the Saints return to action Wednesday for their home finale against Quinnipiac at 2 p.m.
