Capital Region to Celebrate 20th Annual Buddy Walk

The 20th Annual Capital Region Buddy Walk will be held Sunday, October 16, at Schenectady Central Park, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to the walk, there will be entertainment, arts and crafts, children’s activities, information booths, food and fun. Funds raised from the Buddy Walk support educational programs, social services and health resources provided to individuals and families by the Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center, a division of the Center for Disability Services.

The local one mile walk is open to participants of all ages and abilities who are encouraged to get involved and be inspired. Walkers do not need to have a family member or friend who has Down syndrome in order to sign up.

Nationally, the Buddy Walk was established in 1995 to promote the community inclusion and acceptance of people with Down syndrome. This year’s regional event and surrounding festivities celebrate the 20th anniversary as well as the abilities and accomplishments of people with Down syndrome. The Capital Region Buddy Walk began in 1996 and is one of 250 held across the country.
