Capital Region BOCES Students Reclaim Pallet Wood; Make Christmas Trees for Class Fundraiser

Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School students are building ornamental trees as a holiday fundraiser for their class.

The Carpentry Services students are making wooden Christmas trees that stand about three feet tall and feature wooden ornaments. They will be for sale on the Albany Career and Technical School campus for the month of December. Faculty and staff can purchase them for $15.

“It’s very festive, especially this time of year and it’s a fun way to work on our skills and help bring people joy,” said student Spiro Mikropoulos of Mohonasen.

“I like working with my hands and I enjoy taking wood and turning it into a (Christmas) tree,” added fellow student Gavin Ogren of Guilderland.

Teacher Paul Roberts said the students are reclaiming wood from pallets to make the trees.

The proceeds of the sales will be used to purchase materials for a spring project in which students will be building from “boom box” scratch speakers that can hook t their phones via Bluetooth and play their music, Roberts said.
