December 14, 2021Capital Region BOCES Students Fill Santa’s Sleigh for the Less Fortunate
They come from vastly different communities and have vastly different career goals, but Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School students are united in their mission this Holiday Season to help the less fortunate.
Students from every program ranging from Diesel Tech to Global Fashion to Cosmetology joined forces in recent weeks to ensure area youth will wake up with a present this Holiday Season.
A wooden sleigh located in the main office of the Career and Technical School, Albany Campus, collected dozens of toys and games that are being donated to the City Mission of Schenectady
Additionally, $1,050 in monetary donations were raised from students, faculty and staff, including $128 raised by the Retail and Office Services program coffee fund and additional funds raised in the purchase of face masks made by students in the Global Fashion program. The Faculty Association donated an additional $250.
Students in the Retail and Office Services program and the Vocational Training & Transition program used those funds to purchase dozens of additional toys and games that are also being donated to the City Mission.
Students said they enjoyed helping others, while some said the event had a special meaning to them.
“It was fun to help others,” said Aarron Gillson of Cohoes.
