January 21, 2022Capital Region BOCES Students Earn Certifications Thanks to SUNY Cobleskill
A partnership between Capital Region BOCES and SUNY Cobleskill is giving Career and Technical School students’ new certifications that will bolster their resume and professional outlook.
High school students in the Construction/Heavy Equipment program on the Career and Technical School, Schoharie Campus recently completed a three-day training in hydraulics and hydraulic repair led by experts from the college.
The training will be brought to the Career and Technical School, Albany Campus in March for students in the Diesel Tech program.
“During the three days of training, students earn mobile hydraulics certification and a digital badge that is nationally recognized and that they can use throughout their professional careers,” said Ed Wallace, SUNY Cobleskill Outreach Instructor. Wallace was joined in offering the training by fellow instructor Tim Gregoire. The digital badge confirms that the student is well versed in basic skills to operate and repair mobile hydraulic systems.
“The certification shows employers that students have an entry-level knowledge and understanding of mobile equipment hydraulics,” Wallace added.
Students say they enjoyed the training and appreciate the certification.
“I like that we learned it here because it will help us in the future. I also like that Mr. Wallace gave of his time to help us,” said senior James Bushnell, who attends the Construction/Heavy Equipment Program from the Berne-Knox-Westerlo schools.
The certification is one of more than 100 professional, resume-building certifications offered by BOCES in its various career and technical school programs. These certifications range from X-Ray Machine: Safety, Operation & Interpretation offered in the Criminal Justice program at the Schoharie Campus to Visual Communication Using Adobe Photoshop in the Internet Application & Design program to CPR in the criminal justice and health career programs.
