August 27, 2019Capital Region BOCES Rolls Out New Adult Building Trades Program
Adults looking for in-demand job skills can build a solid future for themselves through the new adult Capital Region BOCES Building Trades program.
The program provides students with training created by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). The 400-hour program also offers completers the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour Safety Course and the National Center for Construction Education and Research certifications.
Classes are scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 9. Classes will be held in the evening, three nights per week on the Albany Career and Technical School Campus located at 1015 Watervliet-Shaker, Albany NY 12205.
Carpenters are in high demand with a projected 8 percent growth forecast in the workforce through 2026 and the average salary in the U.S. of $46,950 last year.

Capital Region BOCES adult education offerings have a long history of success in terms or preparing adults for industry careers, even helping them find jobs before their classes are completed.
Take for example, 2018 adult HVAC/R program graduate Mike Burke who was hired by Northeast Heating, Cooling & Refrigeration even before completing the program.
“Before I started at BOCES, I was doing odd jobs, roofing, custodial work, framing … I chose Capital Region BOCES to get something long-term, to have a career,” said Burke. “Thanks to the adult education program, I have the potential to make more money, to have skills that are in demand.”
