Capital Region BOCES Adult Students to be Recruited by Area Nursing Schools

Nearly 150 Adult Practical Nursing students will meet with recruiters from several area colleges on Oct. 19 during a college fair hosted by the Capital Region BOCES Adult Health Careers Center.

The fair will run from 11:30 to 4 p.m. and provide opportunities for both full- and part-time practical nursing students to meet with recruiters. The event is being held at the Capital Region BOCES Administrative Offices located at 900 Watervliet-Shaker Road in Albany.

Among the colleges and institutions scheduled to recruit at the event are Albany Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, The Belanger School of Nursing, Ellis Medicine, Excelsior University, Hudson Valley Community College, Maria College, Russell Sage College, Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, St. Peter’s Health Partners, SUNY Adirondack, SUNY Delhi and SUNY Fulton Montgomery Community College.

“The continued support of our education partners has made our annual college fair one of the highlights for our students each year. I am particularly grateful for the response from admissions reps from across the area who have agreed, without hesitation, to meet with our students and I am excited for the opportunities it will afford our adult students,” said Paula Negri, principal of the Adult Practical Nursing program.

Many of the adult students plan to go onto college to pursue registered nursing degrees.

“I work as a patient care tech and I want to get my LPN and eventually my goal is to do the RN/BSN program. I love helping others,” said Jalani Petersen-Smith, an Albany resident enrolled in the program.

“I have been a certified nurse assistant (CNA) for seven years and wanted to enroll in this program three years ago, but life got in the way. I am here now and ready to roll. I want to go all the way – registered nurse, Master of Nursing degree and even nurse practitioner,” added classmate Chaikh Niass, also from Albany.
