June 9, 2015Capital District Chapter of NAWIC Awards Scholarships to Two Hudson High School Students
ALBANY, NY (June 5, 2015) – The Capital District Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is pleased to announce that Hudson High School seniors Autumn Rose and Alexis Stevenson have been awarded the 2015 scholarships to pursue degrees in the construction-related field.
The Capital District Chapter of NAWIC, a non-profit organization serving women in the construction and related industries, awards annual scholarships to female high school students who plan to attend a college or equivalent program that pertains to a construction-related degree program. The scholarships are awarded based the applicant’s interest in construction, as well as her grades, extra-curricular activities, employment experience, written recommendations and financial need.
This year the Scholarship Committee awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Rose and a $500 scholarship to Stevenson. Both students say their passion for the construction industry is largely attributable to family members in the construction industry.
In the fall, Rose will attend Alfred State College in Alfred, N.Y., to study construction technology with the hopes to join the Carpenters Union and Stevenson will attend State University of New York Delhi in Delhi, N.Y., to study architecture.
The Capital District Chapter of NAWIC started in 1979 with 21 Charter members. The chapter organized with the purpose of providing women with a place to discuss issues unique to women in the construction field. For more information, visit www.nawicnycap.org.
