CAP COM Cares Foundation Launches Week-Long Giving Tour

CAP COM Federal Credit Union along with the CAP COM Cares Foundation will launch its 4th Annual CAP COM Cares Tour the week of August 19-23, 2019. This annual initiative aims to “share the care” by performing random acts of kindness throughout local communities – while encouraging others to also give back. More than 80 CAP COM volunteers will participate in over a dozen visits, activities and deliveries (many a surprise) with the aim of creating a movement across the Capital Region.

Visits will feature numerous acts of kindness. For example, meals will be prepared, and toys will be delivered to a youth organization. One afternoon will be devoted to delivering tasty treats to CAP COM member companies and professional organizations. One group of employee volunteers plan to surprise a local nonprofit with $1,000 worth of art supplies to help stock their shelves. A collaboration with Siena Men’s Basketball, the United Way of the Greater Capital Region, and Trinity Alliance will take place on Thursday afternoon of the tour. And, volunteers will come together for a major car wash, cleaning up the fleet of vans that transport some of our seniors in the community.

The organizations that CAP COM serves during the week were selected with input from an internal committee representative of the CAP COM Cares Foundation and guidance from local Chambers of Commerce.

Some CAP COM members will also benefit from random acts of kindness during the tour. Those who visit the credit union’s social media platforms will have a chance to be randomly selected to receive gift cards to local retailers. More than 100 gift cards will be distributed through surprise visits and social media giveaways.

“The CAP COM Cares Tour is one example of the emphasis we place on employees giving back. We’re aiming to build a movement of kindness here in the Capital Region,” noted Amanda Goyer, CAP COM’s Director of Community Engagement. “We hope to bring a smile to everyone we visit during the week and provide a lasting impact on those we serve in the community.”

Members of the community can also get involved by following the tour on CAP COM social media sites and via the #CAPCOMCares and #ShareTheCare hashtags. Everyone is encouraged to perform their own random acts of kindness during the week and share their interactions on those sites, too.
