Callanan Industries ‘Ride with Mike’ Event Raises More Than $12,000 for NYOH Community Cancer Foundation

On September 28, Callanan Industries presented NYOH Community Cancer Foundation with a $12,587 check from the proceeds of its annual Ride With Mike fundraising event held August 1, 2021. The event is named for long-time Callanan Construction Superintendent and two-time Lymphoma survivor, Mike Walsh.

After taking a year off due to COVID-19, this year did not deter more than 40 sponsors and 60 riders from participating in this annual event.

“As a two-time Lymphoma survivor, I understand the unique challenges that many cancer patients face. When you hear cancer, you think of all the negative things associated with it. I used my diagnosis to do something good for others to make sure that patients in need of financial support have one less thing to worry about during the biggest fight of their lives,” said Mike Walsh, the event’s namesake.

Walsh’s diagnosis and his love for his sports car led to the inception of the first ride in 2016. The motorcycle and sports car procession led by Walsh and escorted by the local Sheriff’s Department spans nearly 70 miles and ends at a local park for a BBQ and raffles.

Callanan employees, customers and community members have raised over $50,000 in the five years they have hosted the event with NYOH Community Cancer Foundation as the beneficiary of the fundraising proceeds for the past two years.

“NYOH Community Cancer Foundation’s mission is to alleviate financial hardship for community members diagnosed and living with cancer, allowing them to focus on treatment and improve their quality of life. We wouldn’t be able to help further its mission and assist those in need without the continued support from businesses like Callanan Industries and selfless community-minded individuals like Mike Walsh. We are forever grateful for their support,” said Sabrina Mosseau, Executive Director of New York Oncology Hematology.
