May 26, 2021Businesses Turn to Capital Region BOCES to Find Employees through In-person Job Fair
Forty-five area businesses will be at the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical School on May 26 to recruit high school students for a wide area of jobs in the skilled trades.
The employers range from automotive dealerships to heavy equipment suppliers, retail operations seeking diesel technicians, and even a railroad design, construction, maintenance and track inspection company, all of whom are seeking skilled workers to fill a variety of positions. Colleges that offer higher education related to trades such as Hudson Valley Community College, University of Northwest Ohio and SUNY Cobleskill will be participating in the event too.
They businesses will be recruiting students from a number of programs, such as diesel technician to small engine repair, auto body collision repair, carpentry and automotive trades technology.
It is the third in-person career fair Capital Region BOCES has conducted this spring, with previous career fairs at the Schoharie Campus and a fair specific to the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry on the Albany Campus resulting in several students being hired.
Business officials say BOCES provides a vital pipeline of workers to the skilled trades.
“If it weren’t for Hudson Valley Community College and BOCES, we would be in very, very serious trouble in terms of our workforce,” said Joe Cronin, manufacturing operations director at Simmons Machine Tool Corp. “We need that pipeline provided by HVCC and BOCES for our future workforce.”
“The career fair will be a great opportunity for our scholars to meet employers, discuss their future goals, share their resume, and explore job opportunities. There are endless job opportunities for those with the skills and desire to work,” said Capital Region BOCES Business Liaison Nancy Liddle.
