BarreFlow, A Fitness Program That Recently Launched, Is Offering a Special Class For Men Only Followed by A Reception Featuring A Mad Jack Brewing Co. Sampling

The creators of BarreFlow, a comprehensive fitness program that combines a barre exercise workout with aspects of yoga and pilates, have designed a unique class they will offer to men only on Sunday, April 3 at 4 p.m.,  at Poise Studios, 5 Vista Blvd in Slingerlands. The class strongly focuses on proper posture and alignment to achieve results and is excellent in combination with a traditional weight workout. Barre itself is a workout routine that uses a ballet barre and some basic elements of dance set to upbeat music.

The concept behind BarreFlow, a unique variation on Barre, is the brainchild of Karli Taylor who has spent years in the fitness industry. She has always placed a great deal of emphasis on alignment and doing exercises in a way that achieve results while keeping the body feeling great with less strain and injury. She and her business partner Jodi Druzba designed BarreFlow for men to accommodate those who don’t necessarily feel 100 percent confident in a class of only women. “I’ve often heard men say they don’t want to make a fool of themselves in front of women or be perceived as ‘the creeper’ in the back of the room, but they do want a good program that will meet their fitness needs. With this class we strive to give guys a great workout they can go through together,” said Taylor.

The 45-minute program will be followed by a Mad Jack Brewing Co. reception which will feature samples of their beer. The company was developed out of the Van Dyck Lounge located in Schenectady, NY.

The class helps to recruit muscles that aren’t used in traditional workouts and is a good counter-balance for the activities of everyday life. Taylor claims that used in conjunction with a weight workout that it will make lifts that much stronger.
She said, “We want to open people’s eyes that even though it is called BarreFlow, it’s not a dance focused class. When you wake up the next morning, you’ll probably be a little sore.”

Once on the path to a Ph.D. in criminology, Taylor’s passion and knowledge in the fitness industry won out and she quickly became a success in the field. She is currently the owner of a fitness studio in the Albany, NY, region. In past years she has held a top position managing personal trainers within a large northeast fitness chain. Her business partner Jodi Druzba, who works closely in partnership with her husband Joe, founder of Average Joe’s Fitness, had been on the lookout for solid fitness programs to bring to the facility. When she came across BarreFlow she fell in love with the concept because she herself could see results and felt better overall after each class.

BarreFlow launced in the Albany, NY region, but the team is starting to take the concept to additional markets. It will soon be offered in Buffalo, NY.

Taylor said, “We hope the guys who take this program get a lot out of it. Most importantly we want them to understand the benefit of balance. It’s great to work with weights but to obtain maximum results you really need additional activities in your routine. BarreFlow helps achieve a well-rounded workout week that yields solid results.”

Taylor is currently offering fitness instructors at studios and gyms a certification specifically to teach her program. She feels strongly that everyone should be certified to present BarreFlow to students. “Certifications provide quality control for business owners, safety and scientifically proven results for participants as well as continuing education for professionals,” she said.
