September 27, 2018Author Virginia Eubanks Presents Talk at Albany Public Library
Albany Public Library is hosting local author Virginia Eubanks on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 12:15 pm at the Washington Ave. Branch. Eubanks will cover her latest book, Automating Inequality: How High-Tech Tools Profile, Police, and Punish the Poor. The author visit is sponsored by the Friends of Albany Public Library, and is part of the group’s Tuesday lunchtime book talk series.
The event will include a discussion of Eubanks’ novel, as well as a reception with light refreshments. Copies of Automating Inequality will be available for purchase and Eubanks will sign the books as requested. This is a free, public event.
Automating Inequality describes the impacts of technology on the lives of poor and working-class people in America. Eubanks tells eye-opening stories of how people all over the country are being affected by this data-based discrimination.
Eubanks is an associate professor of political science at the University at Albany. She has worked in community technology and economic justice for 20 years. Eubanks authored Digital Dead End: Fighting for Social Injustice in the Information Age and co-edited Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around: Forty Years of Movement Building with Barbara Smith.
