Annual Heart Walk Torch Ceremony Honors Heart Transplant Recipient who Passed Away at 35

Who: The family of Jonathan Kirk, who died in January. 6-year-old Ryan Galvin, born with three congenital heart defects, and the Heart Hero of the 2017 Capital Region Heart Walk and Run; Rosalyn Wallace, the Stroke Ambassador to the Heart Walk and Run; Denise Gonick, president and CEO of MVP Healthcare and chair of the 2017 Capital Region Heart Walk; Jump Rope for Heart students from the Albany School of the Humanities; local mascots Ticker, The Great Dane and Southpaw; supporters of the American Heart Association.

What: The annual Heart Walk Torch Ceremony, a time to honor those lost to heart disease and stroke, and rally around survivors as the American Heart Association continues its fight against heart disease and stroke at the Capital Region Heart Walk and Run.

When: Thursday, May 11 at 1 p.m.

Where: The P.E. Building at the University at Albany, Albany. The University at Albany’s address is 1400 Washington Ave., Albany. The P.E. Building is across from the SEFCU Arena. Please park in the SEFCU Arena parking lot.

Why: Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 killers of all Americans. The Torch Ceremony honors those who have lost their fight with heart disease and stroke, and those who live with heart disease and stroke. The Torch Ceremony is also a call to action to ask Capital Region residents to participate in the Capital Region Heart Walk and Run on June 3.
