American Red Cross Seeks “Real Heroes”

The American Red Cross of Northeastern New York is seeking “Real Heroes” to be honored at the organization’s Real Heroes Breakfast on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. Do you know an individual or group in the greater Capital Region who has made a lifesaving impact in their community during the last year? Nominate them to be recognized by the Red Cross for their extraordinary service and bravery.

“We are fortunate in our community to have many amazing examples of lives being saved by ordinary people who find the courage to act in the face of emergencies,” said Gary Striar, Regional CEO for the American Red Cross. “These Real Heroes embody the Red Cross mission, and so we strive to seek out and celebrate their stories each year.”

Past Real Heroes include a young man who rescued a kayaker in danger on the Hudson River; a six-year-old boy who helped his family and their neighbors escape a burning home; and two off-duty police officers who performed CPR to save a woman in distress. Any individual or group who has acted heroically to help change or save a life in the greater Capital Region during the last year may be nominated.

To nominate a Real Hero, visit redcross.org/NENYheroes and click on “Nominate a Hero”. Detailed descriptions of the award categories and nomination criteria are included on the nomination form. All nominations must be received by August 31, 2018.

The Real Heroes Breakfast will take place on Tuesday, October 30 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy. Tickets to this inspiring event are available now.
